N. M. Nazmul Ahsan was born on 21 January 1949 in Nalitabari Upazila of Sherpur District. He passed the secondary examination in 1965 with distinction from Taraganj Pilot High School. Then he was admitted to the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology of Bangladesh Agricultural University. During his student days, he was creative. He was actively involved in literary works, cultural activities, student politics and sports. While studying in his fifth year at the university, he responded to the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and joined the Liberation War. During the Liberation War, N. M. Nazmul Ahsan was the Company Commander of Company No. 1 of Sector No. 11. On 6 July 1971, the important Katakhali Bridge was destroyed under his leadership to build resistance against the advancing Pakistani forces in the Nalitabari, Jhenaigati, Srivardi and Bakshiganj border areas. After this successful operation, this brave freedom fighter was martyred at the age of 22 in a frontal battle with the Pak army. Shaheed N.M. In recognition of his sacrifice, Shaheed Nazmul Ahsan Hall of Bangladesh Agricultural University was established on 24 November 1973. In recognition of his glorious and meritorious contribution to the independence and liberation war of Bangladesh, Shaheed N. M. Nazmul Ahsan was awarded the Independence Award (Posthumously) 2017 by the Government of Bangladesh.
